Fusing Color with the Clear

When the color is first applied it sits on the outer surface of the glass. In order to make the color and clear glass combine as one smooth surface, the artist must put the end of the blowpipe into the glory hole. By evenly turning the blowpipe inside the glory hole, the glass will heat up and regain some of the honey-like consistency it lost during cooling. The colored and clear glass will melt into one entity.
